## Why we recommend it

This is where we go when the centre gets too busy. It is ten minutes uphill and a different city: fewer waffle stands, more people taking their time over one coffee.

## About

The Sablon sits on the slope between the lower town and the Palais de Justice,
and the walk up from the Grand-Place is the point as much as the square itself.
It is lined with antique dealers and art galleries, several long-established
chocolate houses, and cafés with terraces that catch the afternoon sun.

At weekends an **antiques and books market** fills the upper end of the square,
beside the church of Notre-Dame du Sablon. Saturday and Sunday mornings are the
time to see it.

Across the road, the [Square du Petit Sablon](https://www.brusselsgrandplace.com/places/sightseeing/square-du-petit-sablon)
is a small formal garden with a fountain and benches, and a good place to sit
down when the square itself is busy.
