The façade
Façade with 2 high floors on a base with ground floor and mezzanine, finished with a baroque gable. Complex decorative program on the theme of commerce with: house emblem, 4 reliefs, allegories of the 4 corners of the world surrounding Justice, the year of construction and a statue of Saint Nicolas at the top of the gable. The 4 bas-reliefs, which appear to be originals from the late 17th century, illustrate a haberdashery shop, a draper's shop, a dyeing workshop and a ceramics factory.
History and restorations
Reconstruction in 1697-1700 of a house with a stone façade from 1645 (Architect Cornelis Van Nerven). Restoration in 1879-1885; most recent restoration by the City completed in 2015.
Did you know
The statue of Saint Nicholas was replaced by a copy in 2018. The original can be seen inside the church of St. Nicholas.
