The façade

Façade in a striking Baroque style, with concave lateral spans and a highly elaborate crowning. Iconography related to navigation and the sea; portrait and coat of arms of King Charles II of Spain, sovereign of the Netherlands at the time of the reconstruction.

History and restorations

Reconstruction in 1697-1704 of the house with a stone façade from 1641 (Architect Antoon Pastorana). Restoration in 1885-1902; refurbishment of the upper parts in 1987-1990, and most recent restoration by the City completed in 2015.

Did you know

The gable of the main façade mimics the stern of a ship. This house was the only one on the square with a fully decorated rear façade.

Le Cornet on the north-west row of the Grand-Place, its bowed stone bays and statues standing in niches above the doors at street level, with In den Vos to the left and La Louve to the right.
